Hair Accessories

By Sakuan Izumi

"Oh, I’m sorry. Are you all right?"
"It hurts. It really hurts."
"My hair stick bumped you, right? Since you poked me all of a sudden, I turned quickly."
"I don’t really know why I did that. Sorry."
"Really?? Are you okay?"

Hair Accessories

The main decorative things for women in Edo were hair accessories, such as combs, hair sticks and hair pins. Especially, prostitutes decorated themselves with lots of hair accessories. Prostitutes at brothels in Shimabara, Kyoto, who were known for their luxurious outfits, wore 6kg worth of hair accessories. As the Japanese hairstyles got more artful, so did accessories and they made black hair look fabulous.
