Tying Obi

Until the first half of the Edo period, people used strings and flat cloth as obi, and they were tied in various ways, at the back, front or sides. As obi gradually became wider and longer, tying it at the back became the standard, and also different ways were invented to be fashionable, such as darari-musubi, rokou-musubi and hitotsu-musubi.
