During the Edo period, women were supposed to be good at using needles, learning the skills from their mothers or taking lessons. They routinely worked with needles, such as remaking, fixing torn parts, and reinforcing and putting in or taking out the stuffing. Sewing kits were one of the must-haves when they got married.
