【Oshiroi】

Oshiroi was a kind of foundation in the Edo period. They mixed oshiroi powder with water and applied it on the face, neck, ears, collar bones and breasts. For highlighting effects, they put thicker power on the bridge of their nose and lighter powder on the ends of their eyes and eye lids, in order to avoid it looking like a mask. They paid a lot of attention to their foundation by feathering borders and edges.
